I have this problem at work too, it is extremely hot outside and freezing at my workplace. I tend to wear jackets over my sheath dresses regularly in summer.

One of my favourites is the JCrew jacket in finds. I like the navy as a lighter colour to black and like the gold braiding and buttons which co-ordinate well with my gold shoes also in finds.
I also have a white linen blend jacket and a grey cropped jacket that are in heavy rotation over the summer months, all of which are similar in style to the JCrew jacket.
For me a shorter cropped jacket works best with dresses.

John Knits and Chanel-esque looks. I still struggle with incorporating my St. John jackets becuse they have shiny metallic threads, zips and buttons rather than tweed, which is more currentbut the fit and crop are sublime and the original price too expensive to cull even though I bought all on sale.

PS–I love cropped cardigans over sheath dresses, too, in case my post suggested otherwise. They lenghten the leg line and can be both powerful and ladylike, IMHO.
25.01.2020 – In fact, there are not specific categorizations for sheath dresses. I was a BIG fan prior to seeing it, but seeing the staging and the choreography and the interaction between the characters…just WOW. Flowing with the lines of your body to display your shape without clinginess, the sheath dress is both flattering and straightforward to dress up and down. I felt perfectly dressed. Also look for lace jackets.
I also love the idea of mixing solids with prints; the effect is always visually pleasing. Just in case there’s a question: I was just acknowledging they aren’t a new strategy–no offense intended!

Traci I like your suggestion! Love the lighter color. Need to see if my Nord has it. Joy I have been looking at Kimono style. One was not sufficiently warm enough but gorgeous see below and the other one black with red seemed “just” warm enough.

As for the cropped cardi, “been there – done that” years ago and now I hate them. I did get to try on the AT jacket today and it looks, fits and feels fantastic.
I hesitated because I think it may be a tad too long for my liking. I am short waisted and it didn’t seem cropped enough to me.

However, I felt the size 4 in regular was actually a perfect fit. I usually size down to petites for dresses or skirts – when I want a shorter length.
I usually can’t do petits in tops due to my chest area, even though I have small shoulders and am apparently short waisted. I will keep this suggestion in the back of my mind in the future though.

Yawn, I know. But can you spruce them up with statement jewelry and scarves? Another thought Eileen Fisher usually has some. This one is nice over a sheath.
