She also makes veils but I didn’t need one. As other reviewers have stated, Violette is so sweet and nice. When looking for someone to do alterations, I was encouraged reading the other reviews.
My dress is beaded, and was slightly big, so I wanted someone talented and experienced for the job to bring it in and not ruin the detailing.
Unfortunately, I don’t feel that is what I got. I’ll start with the positives. She added a bustle, which I thought looked good, she lifted the dress so it doesn’t hang on me anymore, she tightened the loops on the back so that my buttons wouldn’t pop open, and she fixed the sleeves to be more flattering though the beaded detailing ended up being a bit clumped together.
Now for the negative. My dress is a sheath dress with a beaded tulle overlay, so in my opinion a tricky dress to work on. Violette started by taking in the top, which it needed, but she didn’t do much to bring in the waist or the hips of the dress.
When I pointed out I would like it to be a little more fitted so that it would go in at the waist, she brushed me off and said it was fine.

I should have pushed more, but I figured she knew more than I did. She also brought up the overlay to shorten the dress, which she insisted on doing even though I told her I thought it was a good length.
However, again, since she’s the expert, I went with her suggestion. Unfortunately, the result was that a beading pattern that extended from the top to the bottom of the skirt ended up being misaligned, which I feel is a detail that shouldn’t be missed by an experienced alterations specialist.
Also, much of the stitching that was done over the beading was haphazard and clearly visible when you inspect closely which I realize no one will do at my wedding, but it still bothers me.
It looked like something I would do in a hasty attempt to stitch something together quickly. In addition, there was a beaded trim all along the top of the dress around the back, and for some reason, pieces of it were removed and never added back.
To give her the benefit of the doubt, she may have meant to add them back and forgotten though it’s unclear why they were removed in the first placebut I was too frustrated to go back to her and have her fix it.
In the end, upon receiving my dress, I was four weeks away from my wedding and had a dress that wasn’t the most flattering fit and overall looked worse than when I brought it in.
They also, among other things, re-aligned the beading pattern on the skirt and fixed the beaded trim around the top. The dress now fits me beautifully, and is much more flattering than when I got it back from Violette.
My advice would be if you want to bring a wedding dress here, pay attention to the details, because I don’t think she does that very well.
Go over the dress with a fine tooth comb before leaving her place to make sure there isn’t anything there you will later find you’re dissatisfied with something I wish I had done.
And she may do well on a dress without a lot of beading or detailing; as I mentioned before, she did a decent job on basic alterations to the dress.
I just think will all of the beading, my dress is a particularly difficult one to alter. Violette was so warm and patient.
She did several fittings in a short timeframe. My dress has an unconventional high-low length, and I’m 4’11”, so she made sure the new length was adjusted proportionately.
I felt beautiful in my dress. She also replaced straps, added the sash, and had a gorgeous veil that perfectly matched the shade of ivory.
Even with such an unconventional dress, especially for a winter wedding in Brooklyn, I felt like it was the perfect dress for me, and she made it fit like it was.
I recently had a bridesmaid’s dress altered by Violette. She is very nice and was very kind to me; however, i was very dissatisfied with her services.
I came to see her about a month before I needed the dress for the wedding and I have larger breasts so i needed the dressed to be altered to hide my strapless bra but not be too tight.
She said she would do it with plenty of time to spare. I came in when she said the dress was ready about 2 weeks before the wedding and it was WAY too tight on the breasts so she said she would alter it again.
I waited another week and went in then tried on the dress and it was still too tight.

At that point I gave up because there wasn’t enough time to alter it before the wedding. I would not recommend her services. I am so thrilled to have found Violette for my wedding dress es alterations!
She is incredibly kind, patient and was able to turn around two wedding dresses a ball gown and sheath gown in less than a month’s time when other seamstresses wouldn’t even give me an appointment.
Her tailoring skills are amazing, and the dresses fit me perfectly on my wedding day.
She went above and beyond for us – when the zipper of my ball gown broke during our final fitting, she replaced the zipper on the spot at no additional costand graciously said “thank goodness this didn’t happen on your wedding day!
Most of all, she is kind and wonderful to work with, and treated my mother and I like old friends. We will certainly be back in the future!!
Violette did the alternations for my wedding dress. I was concerned mostly with quality of alternations, since my dress was pretty inexpensive as far as wedding dresses go.
However, it needed some major alterations. It had to be brought down at least 2 sizes in the waste and hips, plus I needed halter straps added.
Violette had great recommendations so I went with her. When I dropped off the dress to her 4 months a head of time, she did the initial fitting and had measured for the halter straps.
The dress had some beautiful details I was worried about lace appliques along the one side, tulle wrap around and tulle over the dress part.

I took it home and she said that I should come back a month before the wedding and we can check it again. The only tweak we ended up having to do after the initial fitting was that she had added halter straps that were white and the dress is off white I didn’t even notice myself until I had taken the dress outside after someone at Mens Warehouse had mentioned that in passing!
Indoors it looks like an exact match! I brought it back and she remade custom straps within a week. It was an easy mistake that was easily changed, and in fact, the second strap she made was even better than the first!
She told me that if I lost any more weight before the wedding to bring it back and she would make more adjustments It wasn’t necessary btu I felt good knowing that she was quick and wanted to make me happy.
I would recommend her to anyone. She is a very sweet woman, and very accommodating. Violette was very nice and flexible but I wouldn’t say she is the best seamstress i’ve ever come across.

I went back 2 more times and something just seemed off about my dress and everytime she tried to fix it, it just became more uncomfortable. At my last fitting, 4 days before my wedding, it was taken in too much and the top didn’t fit at all.

She took it out and fixed a couple things as I was sitting there, it took maybe 10 minutes which should have been a red flag. I tried it on at home in better lighting and found that stitching wasn’t complete, lace and string were hanging out of the top, some of the lace in the back was ripped, the top button fell off, and the lace in the front was a bit shorter than the under layer in some parts.
How to Let Out a Dress or Make It Bigger
The bustle also wasn’t even, one button was about 3 inches off and it wasn’t the easiest to figure out. I had to take it to someone else to finish the top a day before my wedding and she mentioned that she would have done things very differently.
If you want someone quick and flexible and your dress is simple, Violette is the way to go but if you want it done well, i would go somewhere else.

You can go to her home for alterations and she will try to work around your schedule. Despite this, I would avoid Violette at all costs for your wedding gown alterations.
The first time I arrived for alterations at least 3 weeks after my first fitting Violette had completely forgotten I was coming and had not started ANY alterations on my dress.
I came back several more times for additional fittings. On what was going to be my last fitting I told her that I felt the dress was too big there was too much “bunching” around the abdomen with the lace.
18.02.2020 – The bra pads were only sewn in on one side so they kept peeking out of my dress. At this point it was the week of my wedding and I was out of the state in my hometown. They blamed it on my period. You can sign in to vote the answer.
She told me that this was because she had been working with the lace and that once I have the dress steamed things will tighten up and will look perfect.
She assured me that this would fix the problem and tried to reassure me. As expected this did not fix the problem and the dress looked horrible.
At this point it was the week of my wedding and I was out of the state in my hometown. I took the dress to another seamstress and she was appalled that someone would let me leave with a dress looking like this.
She listed 7 or 8 things that were wrong with the dress and showed me all of the “shortcuts” Violette had taken with doing the alterations.
The lace was not lined up appropriately, the inner lining was too tight leading to bunching, there was no shape in the waistline and she also found areas of ripped lace.
This other seamstress completely redid my dress and made it look perfect in record time! I would not recommend Violette to any one for alterations.
